The Fratellis
Fillmore Auditorium - Jun 14, 2007
review by deckels

I've listened to the Fratellis for two months straight, almost exclusively, so I was a little excited to see them last night at the Fillmore. They did not disappoint.

The show was good, but I have to say it didn't blow me away. I can say with certainty, though, that people enjoyed it. I was not the only one who knew the words to all the songs, and though we stood in the more relaxed rear half of the crowd, most people around us couldn't help moving to the music (a group of meatheads in front of us were moving a little too much actually).

I think the band enjoyed it too. They thanked the crowd a few times and made it clear that they were happy to have had the chance to play the historic Fillmore Auditorium. I haven't been to many shows at the Fillmore, but this was the most crowded I've seen it, so my guess is that it sold out.

A few observations: I've never seen more guitar and bass changes, and my fellow show-goers agreed. I think there was a guitar and bass switch for every song. I wish the lead singer/guitarist hadn't played as many of the songs on his acoustic guitar. It worked, but the group sounds better with their usual electric sound.

Why are concerts so loud? We can hear it. I had to wear earplugs at this show, which hurt sound quality for sure. I took them out for a couple songs. The sound was fuller, but my ears regretted it.

They played a couple songs from their "new album". Huzzah to a new Fratellis album!

These guys are assuredly worth seeing. Their sound translates well to live shows. They have good energy. They rock.
