If you know her music at all, you might be surprised to discover that Leslie Feist's music career's origins lay in a punk band called Placebo. Unfortunately (or, perhaps fortunately) Ms. Feist's Placebo is not the same as the uber-famous '90s Brit alt-rock band Placebo. Though her punk group might not have seen as much success as the other Placebo, it did win her and her band mates the spot as opening act in a festival headlined by The Ramones in 1993. At this show, Leslie Feist met Brendon Canning--who would eventually play with her in Broken Social Scene ten years later.

Under her stage name Feist, she released her first solo album in 1999. She has since released a few more albums and collaborated with Wilco, Kings of Convenience, Peaches...and the list goes on. Her popularity sky-rocketed after an iPod commercial featured her song "1234" in 2007.

Her charming and melodic style is also electronic and dancey at times (but not always). She has been compared to the sounds of Cat Power, but mixes it up quite a bit more. Feist puts out emotional and absorbing tunes that are dependable without being boring.
