"After a series of family tragedies, Geographer founder Michael Deni packed his instruments into his car and drove west. He got an apartment in San Francisco, and spent the next fogged-in months holed up in his bedroom with his guitar and a synthesizer he found on the street, turning the memories that drove him from home into songs rich with emotion and dreamlike melodies. Those bedroom demos caught the ear of cellist Nathan Blaz, whose formal training and dynamic sense of arrangement allowed Deni's sketches to grow into fully orchestrated songs. Blaz soon invited friend and long time band-mate Brian Ostreicher to join, whose kinetic drumming style added the ass-shaking beats that are the cornerstone of Geographer's vision of danceable, emotive songs, with lush melodies and honest lyrics." |
