LCD Soundsystem

Dance-punk entrepreneur and genre innovator, James Murphy formed LCD Soundsystem in 2001. He also co-founded dance-punk record label RFA, which has released albums for Arcade Fire, Hot Chip and Yacht. Murphy and LCD Soundsystem have also joined forces with genre leaders, themselves, such as Tyler Pope of !!!.

While LCD Soundsystem has been labeled "dance-punk", a number of musical styles clearly influence and make their ways into LCD Soundsystem's tracks, ranging from post-punk to disco to indie rock. The band has also covered a variety of other artists, including Joy Division and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Meanwhile, LCD Soundsystem themselves have been covered by some pretty big names, such as Franz Ferdinand and John Cale from the Velvet Underground.

LCD Soundsystem has since won a Grammy for the best electronic music album in 2007 (for 45:33). The same album received recognition from Time magazine, who named "All My Friends" best song of the year. They played their last live show at Madison Square Gardens in 2011. A documenty called Shut Up and Play the Hits came out in 2012, which chronicled Murphy's life shortly before and after his final performance in Madison Square Gardens. The documentary was released in 2012 and even made it to the Sundance Film Festival that year.
