Matthew Stephen Ward, born in Newbury Park, California, began performing under his stage name M. Ward in 1999. Ward launched his musical career in Portland, Oregon, from which he released numerous albums, including his debut album Duet for Guitars #2. While he has put out a handful of his own albums, Ward has also collaborated with various well-known indie artists, including My Morning Jacket, Bright Eyes, Jenny Lewis, Jolie Holland, and more.

Before performing on his own, Ward served as the lead singer of Rodriguez. He also joined up with Zooey Deschanel to form She & Him in 2006. And, in case you thought he couldn't possibly have done more, Ward has been a member of Monsters of Folk since its on start in 2004--which also includes Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes, Jim James of My Morning Jacket and producer/engineer/musician Mike Mogis.

Singer/songwriter M. Ward makes pop tunes that blend together various instruments, such as the harmonica and piano. His voice has an honest tone to it--just imperfect enough to make it feel very real and very pleasant at the same time. Many of this tunes have a folk appeal that are reminiscent of a modern-day Bob Dylan. He nonetheless successfully includes an indie rock flare to his style that makes his music quite enticing.
