"Minmae starts out of the ashes of Sean Brooks' former band, Thee Psychic Hearts (yes, it is stolen from Thurston Moore's epic solo album), when Brooks is left with studio time booked that the band is unable to make. At a recording studio called BedRock up in the north county of south California, the 'Poltergeist Over England' 7" is born and so is Minmae. Brooks' original intent is to deconstruct music through sound; to project the idea of a band that in reality is not a band at all. His early material sounds like DJs stuck with guitars and a 4-track, or singer/songwriters with nothing but turntables and samplers. Much attention is gained in psychedelia/lo-fi circles. Once it appears Minmae's fate is sealed, Brooks takes another step and essentially re-forms Minmae. At the expense of using a tautology, it just is what it is. Certain French anthropologists would call it sui-generis, others would say we're using that term too generously. In any event, ours are a series of events; events that find us playing guitar, bass and drums rock music, sometimes sensitively, sometimes with a boogie, other times with a strut. We're also fine with the term 'indie-rock.' We're all young, rugged individuals who like to rock."
