Modest Mouse

Named after a line in Virginia Woolf's tale "The Mark on the Wall", Modest Mouse formed in Issaquah, Washington (a suburb of Seattle) in 1993. They began recording with Calvin Johnson (of Beat Happening and The Halo Benders) and released their first LP, This is a Long Drive for Someone Who has Nothing to Think About on Johnson's label, K Records in 1996.

Modest Mouse has since recorded with Up Records and Epic Records, with whom Modest Mouse released their extremely well-acclaimed album The Moon & Antarctica. Their sound has evolved from a more lo-fi, playful style to a creepier, darker and mysterious approach, to a more mainstream and pop appeal. Lead vocalist Isaac Brock has also been very active with his side project Ugly Cassanova--who also, have seen substantial success. Modest Mouse's sound is constantly adapting and changing, and their future style is hard to predict.
