The Arcade Fire's chemistry and synchronization surpasses their music; within their group is friendship and even marriage. Band founders, frontmen and now married couple Win Butler and Régine Chassagne formed The Arcade Fire in 2003 in Montreal, Canada. Their sound caught on from the on start, and they were signed to Merge Records within their first year as a group. The meaning of their name has been debated and rumored to refer to an arcade that caught fire. However, this rumor has been declared true by Win Butler, who explained that the band's name comes from a story another boy once told him (while Win, to this day, remains unsure whether the story of the arcade on fire was real or a fable).

While the band experienced various member adjustments throughout the years, their distinct sound remains a constant. The Arcade Fire's sound is similar to Wolf Parade with some orchestral flares mixed in. Sometimes their tunes are epic and explosive, throwing in harmonies akin to TV on the Radio, and other times they are simpler and melodic. The Arcade Fire's developed and ambitious approach has delivered them enormous success and recognition from major music forces, such as Rolling Stone.
