"The Rum Diary is a California-based indie rock band. Its members include Daniel McKenzie, Jon Fee, Joe Ryckebosh, and Schuyler Feekes. The band formed in Cotati, California in 2000. Since then the group has released one EP (A Key To Slow Time) and three full-length albums. All members of the band play multiple instruments, however, vocals and guitars are primarily performed by McKenzie and Fee, drums samples and guitar by Jake Krohn. The band's name comes from the novel of the same name by Hunter S. Thompson. Their music is heavily influenced by noise rock. The Rum Diary aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. With sleeves rolled up to the max, they let grimy shoe-gazing melodies reflect off each square of the mirror-ball. The repeating chords create a head-nodding atmosphere, but it's the fearsome drums that really carry it before everything crashes in a brief heavy climax."
